Beneficiaries of Cyprus’ national health system, Gesy, can now collect prescriptions from pharmacies using a digital barcode, eliminating the need to verbally provide personal details.
The barcode is issued electronically through the beneficiaries’ online portal and can be displayed on a mobile phone, tablet or similar device.
The system, which was introduced last month, means pharmacists can scan the code to access and process prescriptions immediately, a change authorities say will streamline the procedure and enhance patient privacy.
Gesy, introduced in 2019, is Cyprus’ universal healthcare system, providing residents with access to primary care, specialist services, hospital treatment and prescription medicines.
