Heavy snowfall and blizzards have wreaked havoc across 18 provinces in Türkiye, leading to the closure of 2,173 roads, according to state-run TRT on Sunday.

In eastern Van province, access to 19 neighborhoods and 35 hamlets has been cut off due to snow accumulation and blizzards.

In Ercis district, where snow depth has reached 40 centimeters, street-clearing operations are underway. In eastern Mus province, 46 village roads remain inaccessible despite efforts to minimize disruptions.

Similarly, in southeastern Bitlis province, 50 village roads are completely blocked. In eastern Hakkari, snow-clearing teams have reconnected 32 out of 34 settlements that were cut off.

However, avalanche risks have halted work on roads to Alan village in Semdinli district and Aktoprak hamlet in Yuksekova district.

The Black Sea region has also been severely affected.

In Kastamonu, mountainous areas have seen transportation disruptions.

Sinop recorded 282 closed village roads, with adverse weather conditions expected to persist until midday Monday. In Trabzon, snowfall has intensified, impacting transportation and grounding fishing boats due to strong winds. Rize has seen 81 village roads closed, with municipal teams actively working to clear routes.

In eastern Erzurum province, eight neighborhood roads are closed due to heavy snow and strong winds, while in Ardahan, four village roads remain impassable. Authorities across the affected provinces have urged residents to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel until road-clearing operations are completed.

Meanwhile, in Cyprus, the Department of Meteorology issued an orange warning for extremely low temperatures, with temperatures in the highest mountains expected to drop to around minus ten degrees Celsius.
