Lebanon ranked as the most polluted Arab country in 2025, scoring 89.4 points on Numbeo’s global index, placing it among the world’s worst.

The survey measures air and water quality, noise and light pollution, green space and waste management.

Egypt followed with 82.7 points, then Jordan, Syria, Bahrain, Iraq, Tunisia, Kuwait, Morocco and Algeria.

Globally, Cameroon led with 93.7 points, ahead of Myanmar. Lebanon appeared in the top 10 alongside Nigeria, Mongolia and Ghana.

Numbeo said pollution extends beyond air and water to industrial waste, traffic congestion and noise, raising health risks including respiratory and chronic diseases.

On the positive side, Oman ranked as the cleanest Arab country, credited with effective environmental policies and investment in clean infrastructure.

The report urged Arab states to strengthen measures against pollution and adopt sustainable policies to protect public health.
