The State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) supports the establishment of a National Ambulance Authority, its spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou said, stressing that no financial dispute is involved.
Speaking on CyBC, Charilaou said the key issue is not pricing but ensuring proper preparation for transferring the Ambulance Service from OKYPY to the Health Ministry, where it is set to operate as an independent authority from Jan. 1, 2027.
He said the main elements of the transition include calculating the full operating cost, separating emergency from non‑emergency cases, and determining how patient transfers will be managed — including a possible role for the private sector.
Charilaou added that OKYPY has the necessary expertise and will support the transition, assuring that even if delays occur, public service will not be affected.
