FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A 17-year-old in Nicosia has been hospitalized in intensive care with bacterial meningitis, marking the third reported case in Cyprus in two weeks, according to Philenews.
Health officials said earlier cases involved a baby in Paphos and a high school student in Limassol, adding that there is no connection between the cases, though investigations are ongoing.
Meningitis is an inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, known as the meninges.
It is typically caused by bacterial or viral infections and can become life-threatening without prompt treatment.
Symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light, nausea, and confusion.
