FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The negotiators for the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities resumed talks Thursday, marking their first meeting since the informal expanded conference on the Cyprus problem in Geneva.

Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou and Turkish Cypriot negotiator Güneş Onar plan to continue their discussions, focusing on unresolved issues from the Geneva conference.

The talks are part of ongoing efforts to bridge differences between the two sides and work toward a comprehensive settlement of the long-standing Cyprus issue.

The meeting comes ahead of a scheduled encounter between Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, set to take place on April 2 in Nicosia.

The upcoming meeting will be their first official engagement since the Geneva conference, adding significance to the renewed efforts at dialogue.

The Cyprus problem, a territorial and political dispute that has divided the island for decades, remains one of the most challenging issues in the region.

Both communities are under international pressure to find common ground and restart formal negotiations aimed at reunifying the island.
