FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus will be “completely unprepared” for energy sufficiency this summer, Marios Papoutis, head of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus’ (EAC) technical employees’ union, warned Monday.
Speaking on state broadcaster CyBC, Papoutis said President Nikos Christodoulides’ decision to block an approved 8-9% electricity price hike would put the semi-state-owned provider in financial difficulty.
The Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) had agreed to the increase after the EAC requested the adjustment. However, Christodoulides publicly stated last week that the tariff hike should not go ahead.
